Do you have flab and fat bulging around your upper back? Does your bra create unattractive bulges around your shoulder blades? Liposuction of the back may be the answer to your problems. Selectively targeted fat removal in this area can help you look and feel better in your clothes (or without).

Although this is an issue that primarily affects women, men certainly have this complaint as well. Our preferred method of liposuction for this problem is WaterLipo® with tumescent local anesthesia. This kind of gentle but effective contouring can give your upper body shapelier curves and a more athletic appearance.

The stubborn fat in the upper back area tends to be very fibrous and dense. WaterLipo® in this scenario is actually COMBINED with laser liposuction to both melt fat AND wash it away. This is the most advanced technology available to deal with this area. This technique is far more effective and less traumatic than traditional liposuction which relies solely on scraping away the fat.

Unfortunately, diet and exercise are often ineffective at addressing these stubborn local fat areas that are “programmed” into the body. Here is how it works!

There is no need for dangerous general anesthesia or IVs for either WaterLipo® or laser liposuction. Both are done using local anesthesia in what is called the tumescent technique—documented as the safest technique in liposuction. First, a local anesthetic is used to numb the area. Tiny incisions are then placed along the sides of the back, allowing the doctor to introduce a laser a fiber which literally melts away the fat from the shoulder blades to the waist. The laser also encourages skin-tightening. Once the fat is melted, the water jet cannulas are then used to literally wash away the melted fat and additional fat that has softened in that area. All procedures are performed on-site at our state-of-the-art office in Las Vegas, WI. Here are some key points about WaterLipo® and laser liposuction of the back.

WaterLipo® and tumescent laser liposuction are both extremely safe ways of removing disproportionate fat to restore the harmony of the upper body. Once the fat cells are removed, the body cannot make new ones, so they are gone for good.

What are the benefits of back liposuction with WaterLipo® and or laser liposuction?

These types of advanced liposuction result in the elimination of bra bulges and lumpy backs. What should I expect from the procedure?

WaterLipo® and tumescent laser liposuction are performed on-site in our safe, state-of-the-art clinic, so there are no additional fees. Patients are lightly sedated with local anesthesia, so they remain awake and coherent throughout the procedure. Patients are numbed and then tiny incisions are made to access the trouble areas. A laser fiber is introduced through these incisions and melts the fat. Once the fat is melted, the water jet cannulas literally wash out the melted fat and remaining softened fat. This type of liposuction takes only about an hour and patients are able to walk out of the office with a newly sculpted body and refined image. Patients are not permitted to drive, however. Each patient will need to be picked up after the surgery and driven home.

How can I tell if I am a good candidate for back WaterLipo® or laser Liposuction?

Tumescent Liposuction of the back is a safe procedure for most men and women who have a high accumulation of dense, fatty deposits along the sides or across the breadth of the back. It is recommended that patients are in good health when undergoing any procedure to reduce general risks and potential complications. This procedure is not a means of weight loss. Instead, these are body sculpting techniques designed to remove stubborn areas of fat that respond poorly to diet and exercise.

Can back WaterLipo® or tumescent laser liposuction be combined with other procedures?

Yes. As a matter of fact, most of our patients choose to have more than one area addressed at one time.

Will the procedure leave scars or excess, sagging skin?

Tiny incisions are used in both WaterLipo® and tumescent laser liposuction. These incisions heal very and scarring is usually not an issue. After a few months, the incisions either become completely invisible or appear as tiny little freckles.

Unlike traditional liposuction, these high tech liposuction procedures designed to promote skin tightening as the fat is removed. Unless your skin is already very thin, wrinkled, or lax due to aging or dramatic weight loss, you will usually see an improvement in skin tone and firmness.

What are the side effects of back and upper body WaterLipo® or tumescent laser liposuction?

Because no general anesthesia involved, these are very safe procedures. The techniques are far more refined than traditional liposuction with minimal downtime. It is rare for anyone to have enough discomfort to keep them from going about their daily activities or work for more than a day or two. There are no stitches and the tiny incisions close up quickly. The vast majority of our patient return to work within 24 to 48 hours. A compression garment similar to a girdle will be worn around the upper body for about one week but is not visible underneath your clothing. Final results can be seen within a few weeks with final results within six months. While it does take a while for the swelling to go down, there is usually minimal to no pain involved for most patients.

What are the side effects of back and upper body WaterLipo® or tumescent laser liposuction?

What if I do not want to be totally awake during my procedure?

We NEVER use general anesthesia for liposuction procedures because we feel it is simply unsafe. However, we do offer the option to do the procedure under “Twilight” which is essentially a slightly stronger form of sedation than the usual relaxing pills we provide for you.
